3 reasons for water retention in the body. You will be surprised - Zdrowie Wprost

Water retention in the body can not only lead to weight gain but also to a feeling of heaviness. Excess fluid causes swelling, especially in the arms and legs, and contributes to an increase in tissue around the abdomen.

Retention in the body can have various causes, but most often it is the result of an improper diet. If the daily diet includes an excess of highly processed products, dishes rich in preservatives and salt, this can lead to the accumulation of water in the body. Stimulants are another cause of water retention in the body. Alcohol removes water and minerals, and may lead to edema and a feeling of heaviness.

How do you recognize the excess water in the body?

Water retention in the body shows obvious symptoms:

  • Swelling appears in the upper and lower extremities
  • Abdominal tissue growth
  • overweight
  • feeling heavy
  • low energy
  • swelling in the face

3 unclear reasons for water deposition in the body

Water retention in the body may be related to a poor diet, but other factors also contribute to water storage. What?

Very little fluid

This is a simple and not obvious fact to many people. If we drink a little water, the body protects itself from dehydration by storing water in the tissues as a reserve. This is why we feel heavy and swollen and notice with obvious astonishment that although we have not changed our eating habits, we have gained weight.

An adult should consume at least 2 liters of water per day. Ideally, it should be water, but other things are also included in the fluid balance, such as herbal tea or soup. A good way to stay hydrated is to drink mint or add fresh mint leaves and lemon to your water.

Excess salt in the diet

The body also stores water due to the large amount of salt in the menu. If we eat foods rich in salt or add large amounts of salt to ready meals, the body stores water because of the excess salt. This can lead to swelling of the fingers and toes and contribute to the appearance of puffiness on the face.

In order to prevent the accumulation of salt in the body, not only salty snacks should be excluded from the menu, but also pay more attention to what we eat. Salt is everywhere, as well as in products that may be inconspicuous sources of salt, for example in deli, pies or bread. It is a good idea to drink plenty of water and make wise food choices.

hormonal disorders

Hormonal disturbances also contribute to the deposition of water in the body. Many women notice a buildup of water before their period. It is the result of hormonal disorders, the secretion of vasopressin and aldosterone. Swelling and water buildup in tissues often occur a few days before your period and begin to fade when your period starts. Usually, on the first day of menstruation, you can already notice a noticeable improvement in the loss of water accumulated in the body.

Symptoms of water accumulation may also appear due to improper action of thyroid hormones. Thyroid disorders contribute to a slowdown in metabolic processes, as well as the accumulation of water.
