California is battling Hurricane K. The wind is blowing at a speed of 170 kmph. The crash occurred as the plane attempted to return to the airport after takeoff from an Air Force base near San Diego. When he landed, disaster struck. The machine fell off the belt.
Two pilots had to eject after the plane skidded off the runway at North Island US Army Base in Coronado, California.
The incident took place on Friday. A civilian jet operated by a military contractor skidded off the runway and came to rest on a dike built in San Diego Bay.
The twin-engined Learjet 36 had two pilots. After the disaster, they were able to get out of the cabin, the Times of San Diego reported. Both were taken to the hospital, base spokesman Kevin Dixon said.
The cause of the crash was not released, but the plane landed in rough weather. The machine crashed shortly after 1pm local time. It had departed from the same airport 40 minutes earlier, so it might have turned back due to bad weather and insufficient visibility.
Hurricane K has moved northward off the coast of Mexico in California. The National Hurricane Center has said that the current heavy rains are likely to cause flash floods in the region.
