Olympic champion Anita Wadarchek said at “Fakty po Faktach” that she will not be participating in this year’s World and European Athletics Championships. The reason is a muscle injury she sustained while chasing a thief who tried to break into her car.
A three-time Olympic champion, multiple world, European and national record holder in hammer throw, was asked in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 about her health. On Friday, Włodarczyk caught a red-handed thief who broke into her car. I paid for the intervention for a muscle injury.
– I feel much better, I had an operation yesterday. It was such an adrenaline rush that I didn’t feel pain. Quick process, I have a lot of rehab work – as I described.
Returning to the situation on Thursday, Włodarczyk reported that it happened around 5pm in the capital, Gocław. – We came with a trainer for strength training. After training, the plan was for us to go to Suwałki, where I was going to take part in the Polish championship. I saw a lot of people in the parking lot. When I parked my car, went to the parking meter to pay for the ticket, a man started walking past my car. I didn’t care about him, I felt that something was going to happen, but I didn’t let me see what I saw – she remembers it.
I got back in the car, shut it down, and went to the gym. I go upstairs in the gym, and I say to the coach: Coach, let the coach go downstairs, because I feel like something might happen now–I continued. After a while – as she described – she saw the thief who managed to open the car door.
The man started running away. “It was seconds,” she admitted, “and here was my instinct, my aspirational character, to get it.” She added that the criminal was arrested about 130 meters away.
Włodarczyk: I won’t start at this year’s world championships
The injury called into question Włodarczyk’s other beginnings. The World Cup will begin in Eugene, Oregon, USA, on July 15. Włodarczyk confirmed on the program that she will not be traveling to from the United States.
– I will not start at this year’s World Championships, which were scheduled to take place in five weeks in Eugene, and then in mid-August at the European Championships. Those were two target events for me – I admit. – She added, of course, I will not start this season. She explained that the reason for this was the muscle being sutured together and “now it should heal.”
Włodarczyk said on the show that she is full of faith and optimism.
My goal in sight is Paris 2024 and the motivation to go through this qualification is really great – sum up the champion.
