The future of Antoine Griezmann has been clarified. The player will remain at Atletico Madrid next season. “MARCA” reported that a special clause in the contract with FC Barcelona was decided in this regard.
Last season, Antoine Griezmann was loaned to Atletico Madrid. Then the team from the Spanish capital reached out to the former football player, who sold him to FC Barcelona.
However, in the Duma Catalunya colors, the striker did not live up to his expectations. In the end, the player was considered a heavy burden on the club’s budget and a decision was made to transfer him soon.
The return to Atlético Madrid was also not successful. Experts confirmed that Griezmann does not appear high and is unable to meet Diego Simeone’s demands.
Throughout the 2021/22 season, the French played 36 matches. He scored eight goals in it and there were doubts about his future.
It has been speculated that the 31-year-old will leave Atletico and eventually be sold by FC Barcelona as well. Among other things, Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao have expressed their interest.
But otherwise it happened – “MARCA” reported that Antoine Griezmann will remain in Madrid for next season. The club used a special clause in his contract with FC Barcelona and automatically extended the Frenchman’s loan.
The Spanish press also adds that if all goes well for the “Duma Catalunya”, the Camp Nou will soon raise 40 million euros. This is the release clause that will be automatically activated if the attacker plays at least 50% of Atlético’s official matches in the 2022/23 season.
