Austria rezygnuje ze szczepionki AstraZeneca

Austria abandoned AstraZeneca vaccine

Denmark (in mid-April) and Norway (in May) already withdrew from AstraZeneka.

Austrian Health Minister Wolfgang Meikstein said Austria will not vaccinate AstraZeneca.

It is possible that we will vaccinate this product until the beginning of June, and then the end. (…) We will ditch AstraZeneka – he said in an interview with Puls 24 TV.

Citizens’ mistrust

The minister pointed out that he took such a decision not only because of the big delays in the supply of the preparation throughout Europe, but also because of the lack of confidence of citizens in taking this vaccine due to very rare cases of venous thrombosis.

On this point, however, Mueckstein, a medical professional, echoed the opinion of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the World Health Organization (WHO), saying that the preparation provides a “high level of protection” and that the benefits from taking it outweigh any potential risks.

Austria, where 8.9 million citizens, or a third of the population, received at least the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, has requested millions of vaccines for 2022 and 2023, most of them from Pfizer / BionTech and Moderna, which use mRNA technology.
