On Friday afternoon, the top of the multi-storey school under construction in Antwerp collapsed due to unknown reasons. According to The Brussels Times, the school was due to open in the new academic year on 1 September and the construction company tried to speed things up to meet the deadline.
On Saturday afternoon, rescuers pulled out the last wanted construction worker from the rubble.
According to Agence France-Presse, the five dead in the disaster are Portuguese and Romanian construction workers, and the nationality of the others has not yet been confirmed, but it is likely that two of them are Portuguese and Russian.
Three of the nine hospitalized injuries are in the intensive care unit, and their condition is serious but not life-threatening.
Belgian King Philippe and Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Croo visited the site of the tragedy on Saturday.
