Super-fast rail is doing very well in the world, but even with this in mind, the idea of connecting China and the United States by rail may seem – to put it mildly – difficult to implement. The shortest route from the Chinese border to Alaska is about 4,000. Km, and to the main part of the United States – just over 7 thousand. Km
Along the way are Siberia and the Bering Strait. It is true that there are those who dare to swim in it, but the Chinese plan involves building a tunnel through it. It is about 100 km from Asia to North America. This would require four times the number of tunnels under the English Channel.
Chinese Super Train
Can such an investment succeed? The first ideas for a Sino-US railroad emerged in 2014 from the Chinese side. But then the analysis showed higher costs as opposed to projected profits. Budget alone – billion 200 billion. (PLN 735 billion) An astronomical sum.
However, this does not mean that the theme of the lines will not come back to the wallpaper. In 2018, China built a 77km railway line with a 16km underwater tunnel for the super train. So the Central Kingdom has the appropriate technology and experience. According to the Chinese media, an agreement was also reached with Russia to build a railway in Siberia.
On the other hand, the United States and Canada have signed an agreement to create a division connecting the two countries by 2020. Railroads from Alaska to Alberta cover 2,500 sq m. Km long and cost more than PLN 80 billion. This line is likely to be part of an intercontinental connection in the future.
