Cyberpunk 2077 – Silence in front of the storm that is about to thunder

Cyberpunk 2077 - Silence in front of the storm that is about to thunder

The end of last month was very fruitful in terms of new information for fans of the largest Polish studio dealing with the creation of high-budget video games – CD Projekt RED -. The Poles provided us with financial results for the first quarter of this year, confirmed work on new AAA games (indicating that – according to previous promises – the team will be working on more than one fat project at the same time), and announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will remain in development.

Plan ahead

In addition to the usual patches to improve the game’s performance on consoles and PC, CD Projekt RED is preparing free DLCs that will likely introduce additional activities in Night City, as well as paid story expansions that will expand the history of both old and new heroes. And most importantly, we cannot forget the premiere of the aforementioned item on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, the current generation of Sony and Microsoft devices.

In my opinion – now we are dealing with silence in front of a massive storm. The last patch affecting production smoothness on PS4 and XONE appeared on servers at the end of March, so two months have passed since then. The situation on the web has calmed down, and fewer and fewer people are pouring sap on developers, forgetting the almost unprecedented right to replay the game, so local developers can freely develop additional content for Cyberpunk 2077. And that would be a lot.

Come on!

Citing a leak that happened in the second half of April of this year, CD Projekt RED is preparing more or less 10 DLCs. Most of them will be free, and only the most advanced will cost you $10 to $15:

  • Body Workshop Expansion – Maximum Weight 20 GB (Free Content)
  • Fashion Forward – Maximum Weight 20 GB (Free Content)
  • Gangs of the Night City – Maximum Weight 20 GB (Free Content)
  • Chrome Body – Maximum Weight 20GB (Free Content)
  • Dark Future Ride Games – Maximum Weight 20GB (Free Content)
  • The Relic – Maximum Weight 30 GB (Free DLC)
  • Neck Depth – Maximum Weight 30 GB (Free DLC)
  • Night City Expansion – Maximum Weight 30GB (Free DLC)
  • Expansion Card – No weight mentioned (DLC cost: $15)
  • Category 1 – Maximum weight 30 GB (DLC cost: $10)
  • Class 2 – Maximum weight 30 GB (DLC cost: $10)

However, the most interesting thing is that the thing the developers called “content1” is missing from the list just given. Looking at the data from the Epic Inspector, the volume is expected to be 29.4 to 35 GB in size and already available for download… on June 10. If that’s not enough, a game card on the trusted steamdb.info service indicates that someone has recently added new content to the servers.

According to the image above, CD Projekt RED added new content to the Gabe Newell platform exactly 19 hours ago (at the time the text was published, it will be over a day). There is a good chance that if all goes well, testers will not encounter any bugs that spoil the gameplay, and the first downloadable content for the mode released on December 10, 2020 will appear on June 10, 6 months after the premiere. Nice date, right?

It’s hard to say what will offer the “extra content”, but we can expect new clothes and activities in the bustling Night City (maybe bars and some creative mini-games ala Gwent in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt?), or more implants to diversify the fun. I wouldn’t count on more contracts, or side quests offering something thicker, because there will be time for that. For now, as the PR folks at CDPR have declared, Cyberpunk 2077 should enter “free DLCs.”

faster than we think?

I guess we won’t have to wait long for more traffic from our home studio. The holidays will be devoted to polishing the gradual content, and with the beginning of September, the machine will start at full speed. That month, as well as October (excluding the Far Cry 6 premiere), isn’t rich with premieres from high-budget productions, so presenting Cyberpunk 2077’s “next-gen” release on PS5 and XSX | S at that time will be interesting new impressions, the owners will certainly be interested in the nickname of the Poles – and certainly those who have not yet contacted him.

The appearance of thicker expansions, the size of which is similar to Heart of Stone, Blood and Wine created for The Witcher 3, is still in mind. Their premiere this year — given the updated roadmap shown above — is unlikely, but who knows. Perhaps we will be surprised by their presentation in the last quarter of 2021? There is nothing else but to wait for official reports and all kinds of rumors, because recently they have brought us a lot of interesting information.
