More mini science centers are emerging – discovery, imagination and activity areas. One of them was opened at the GEOsfera Jaworznie Environmental and Geological Education Center. The ceremony was attended by Włodzimierz Bernacki, MEiN’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. This is the fifth Discovery, Imagine, and Activity (SOWA) region.

This initiative aims to create a space for children and youth to expand their social skills and competencies, such as working in a team. It is a preparation for young people so that they can participate in education at the secondary school level, and then at the academic level, Deputy Minister Włodzimierz Bernacki said during the opening of the District of Discovery, Imagination and Activity in Jaworzno.

The MEiN Secretary of State emphasized that small science centers support the development of imagination and stimulate creativity. These are places where young people will be able to experience and learn about science in an interesting way.

At the same time, Deputy Minister Włodzimierz Bernacki noted that the areas of discovery, imagination and activity offer residents of cities and small towns an attractive form of learning and a pleasant way to spend leisure time near their place of residence: – a work aimed at opening up to local Poland – he said.
There are 15 interactive galleries in Jaworzyna for discovery, imagination and activity. An integral part of the gallery is the “Majsternia” – a workshop space that allows you to freely experiment and conduct experiments. Educational games are also waiting for visitors.

The Areas of Discovery, Imagination and Activity is an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science implemented in conjunction with the Copernicus Science Center. Its goal is to establish small scientific centers in smaller cities and towns (up to 150,000 inhabitants). Centers are established in cultural institutions and scientific and educational institutions already operating, such as community centers, libraries, media centers, art galleries, and museums. At each facility, visitors can visit an interactive exhibit and participate in scientific experiments and experiments.

32 small science centers

Last year, two pilot zones were launched, Discovery and Imagination and Activity. In 2022, it is planned to open another 18 such facilities. In turn, in 2023, 12 small science centers will open.

In total, in the coming years, in 32 regions of Poland, small scientific centers will be created, which will promote the idea of ​​​​learning on the basis of independent research, experiment and discovery of the phenomena of the world around us. The best educational experiences and exhibitions of the Copernicus Science Center will be transferred to the institutions.
