Kurtika: We want spas to be a symbol of healthy air and healthy water

Experts: Trapped in four walls during the pandemic, we have not taken good care of our health

We closed four walls during the epidemic, did not take good care of our health, and the consequences are alarming – specialists warn. More people are overweight or obese, have high blood pressure, or have excessive levels of glucose or cholesterol in the blood.

The experts spoke about this during the debate organized on the occasion of the eighteenth edition of the national preventive and educational campaign “Survey della Circa”. They emphasized that society is facing new health challenges. In addition to the COVID-19 disease and its long-term complications, the unfavorable lifestyle of many people is also dangerous, which will last for a long time.

“I have doubts as to whether we are taking good care of our health, locked in four walls. We ate a lot, in addition to sweets mainly, mostly to calm down and rest. 2 kg. We also sleep poorly, sleep is tough and shallow, and this leads to heart disease” – he said Professor D. Anna Tomachuk-Kazperuk from the Department of Cardiology, Bialystok Medical University.

This is confirmed by Dr. Love. Hanna Mojska from the National Institute of Public Health in Warsaw. “The first studies in the epidemic show higher food consumption and weight gain,” she said. The specialist referred to the research conducted using the interview method at the end of 2020 in 10 European countries, including Poland. She pointed out that “most of the respondents admitted that they increased the consumption of foodstuffs, especially meat products and sweets, including chocolate products. The consumption of ready meals was only less, but this was because we stayed at home more.”

However, the specialist noted that people’s diet was negatively changing before the pandemic. She stressed that “the data released by the Central Statistical Office shows that in 2010-2018 the consumption of cold meat increased by 130%. The consumption of fish, which was very small in Poland, decreased by 40%”.

A serious problem is neglecting diagnostic tests that must be performed regularly. “Home methods, such as measuring blood pressure, are very good, but they are usually neglected by patients during a pandemic. Some have given up measurements of glucose or cholesterol in the blood, while others have not even bought the drugs” – the professor emphasized. Anna Tomasoch Kazperuk.

She added that it is important to maintain good physical condition – the best defense against SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. “This is the only line of defense, but many people have stopped playing sports. Every fourth Italian has stopped playing sports,” – she pointed out.

According to the Polish Heart Association spokesperson, A. Marcin Grabowski, the biggest health risk among people over 50. He pointed out that “the largest increase in blood pressure is among people between the ages of 50 and 75 years, and in this group the health effects can be greater.”

“The problem is that high blood pressure only hurts after complications, such as a stroke. At the same time, drowsiness may develop after antihypertensive therapy, and the patient does not have an occupational motivation. In such a situation, he may stop treatment. Run through it.” – The professor explained. Grabovsky, a specialist in the Department of Electro-Cardiology of the Department of Cardiology of the Medical University of Warsaw.

“Chronic diseases, especially in the initial period, do not cause serious symptoms,” the professor admitted. Leszek Zupreniak, Head of the Department of Diabetology and Internal Medicine at the Medical University of Warsaw. However, he noted that in the event of a pandemic, there had been limited contact with doctors, and that teleportation had been abused.
