Spanish “El Confidencial” journalists have published other tapes of conversations between Gerard Pique and the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales. It clearly shows a conflict of interest. The case was handled by the Spanish Public Prosecutor’s Office.
It turned out that the Spanish Federation rejected the Qatari proposal, which was generally more favorable to the Federation. A smaller base amount (33 million euros) was guaranteed, but there were no clauses that would lower the payments in the absence of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The difference was also that Qatar refused to pay the additional commission to the company run by Pique. The footballer also tried to arrange the opportunity to perform at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
– You have to do this for me, Robbie. If you’re going to talk to the manager, everything should be strictly confidential – said the defender in an interview with the president of the Spanish Federation. He was supposed to arrange the appointment of Pique from the Under-21 team.
In Spain, he is very vocal about both sides of the issue. There is no doubt that there is a clear conflict of interest within them. The case has already been handled by the local prosecutor’s office.
