The Socialist Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, officially announced, on Sunday, that she will run in the presidential elections next year in France. Currently, her support in the polls is around 7-9 percent.
– She decided to run for the presidency of the French Republic – 62-year-old Hidalgo announced to her supporters in Rouen, western France. She stressed that she is “a candidate who can provide a future for our children and all our children.”
Referring to French President Emmanuel Macron, whom Hidalgo regularly accuses of arrogance towards society, she said she wanted to “end contempt” and insisted on returning “respect” to the people.
The five-year period, which was coming to an end, was to unite and divide the French as never before. It was supposed to solve social problems and make them worse. She was supposed to protect our planet, move away from the environment – Macron criticized Hidalgo.
We must renew our French model, which has been weakened by many crises – health and climate. Mayor of Paris, I want all children in France to have the same opportunity that I have.
Hidalgo has announced that she intends to put the issue of environmental transformation at the center of her election campaign. She declared: “We must go green,” and promised a “five-year plan to decarbonize the economy,” but also negotiated wage increases and more decentralization, among other things.
Hidalgo announced the start of her campaign on July 12 at a rally in Villeurbanne in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The mayor of Paris decided to announce his participation in the elections without participating in the primaries of his party.
As the French press wrote, some socialists believe that Hidalgo is adopting a new political programme, noting, among other things, that at meetings she does not use the traditional slogan of the Socialist Party (PS) – rose and fist.
