The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia had been very active in the G20 summit in Rome. The Kremlin spokesman commented on the words of US President Joe Biden, who expressed his disappointment at the absence of Russia and China.

“Russia participated very actively in the G20 summit,” Peskov assured, adding that President Putin’s speeches, although via video link, were very substantial. A spokesman added that Russia had set targets for carbon neutrality ahead of the summit and aimed to achieve it by 2060.

He assured that Russia was taking steps to slow down climate change and would continue to do so, but that the process “requires adequate action by all countries.” At the same time, he stressed, “everyone is obliged to take into account the needs of developing countries, which at one time polluted the Earth’s atmosphere the least, because their industrial growth went at a very slow pace.”

President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman added that Moscow and Washington had agreed that “high-level contacts were necessary” between the two countries.
