GeForce RTX 2060 – Nvidia is preparing a new card with 12GB VRAM

Will Nvidia update the GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card? Although it is hard to believe, there were rumors on the Internet that suggested such a scenario.

GeForce RTX 2060 debuted in early 2019 and quickly became one of the most popular graphics cards for gamers. This year, this model was replaced by the new generation Nvidia Ampere GeForce RTX 3060. However, it seems that it may return soon in an updated version.

VideoCardz has found unofficial information, according to which Nvidia is preparing an improved version of the GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card.

The new model will be based on a Turing TU106-300-KX core with the same number of modules, but will have a double “dose” of video memory – it will have 12 GB of 192-bit GDDR6 memory on board.

More VRAM will theoretically work at higher resolutions, as 6 GB slowly starts to fail (not without reason that new mid-range cards have 8 or 12 GB VRAM).

GeForce RTX 2060 12GB as a recipe for a crisis in the graphics card market?

Where did the idea to update the old model come from? Perhaps the manufacturer wants to deal with the problems with the availability of graphics cards in this way – the improved RTX 2060 at a good price can be of great interest to gamers. In particular, according to the head of Nvidia, the crisis may continue next year (and the Turing core will be produced by TSMC, that is, at a plant other than Ampere Systems).

According to VC, Nvidia’s partners are set to release 12GB GeForce RTX 2060 builds by the end of this year (although these models may not be available for sale until January next year – a lot will depend on production capabilities here).
