What are primary aromatic amines?
Primary aromatic amines (PAAs) are carcinogenic compounds. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified most of them as probable carcinogens. Primary aromatic amines are commonly used in the manufacture of azo dyes in the production of some plastics, dyes, and adhesives. These are raw materials that are used in the production of packaging and other items intended for contact with food. Due to certain chemical reactions, primary aromatic amines may pass into food beyond acceptable limits.
