If someone puts a loaded gun in my head and asks which game will be 100% available during this year’s PlayStation Show, I’d answer without thinking: God of War: Ragnarok. Recently, the most respected insider in the industry talked about the latest Santa Monica Studio title, so Cory Barlog and his team didn’t make a trailer for Sony’s upcoming event.
PlayStation Showcase 2021 review Wojtek posted on the portal yesterdayAnd, as a reminder, I’d like to mention that Sony decided to give us new materials from Forspoken or GhostWire: Tokyo, Deathloop, or Gran Turismo 7, but didn’t forget to offer surprises in the form of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Wolverine, and even Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection , which is also intended for PC. However, I was very impressed by Kratos’ latest adventure, which – in my opinion – overshadowed all the other presentations. It is literally.
Unpredictable difficult journey
As soon as I noticed Kratos sitting by the fire and a beautiful song, known to fans of God of War, goosebumps appeared on my skin. I’m someone who has high hopes for this project – especially considering the fact that Horizon Forbidden West debuted in 2022, due to bad memories from Horizon Zero Dawn, doesn’t make a great impression on me at the moment, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Crossed to American developers “hand over” their title by the second half of the following calendar year at the latest.
Coming back to this point, during the show, we officially learned for the first time what story writers from the Santa Monica studio were going to tell us. After scattering the ashes of Atreus’ mother on a hill in Gottonheim and learning new details about the origin of Kratos’ son, it’s time to meet other Norse gods. According to what we saw less than three days ago, the main character of the brand will compete with Thor, Tire or Freya, although it is unknown and will likely remain so until the premiere of the game on the market, whether we will have the opportunity to collaborate with any of them. As the subtitle of the title discussed today says, Ragnarok will present the inevitable conflict between the gods, so it can be assumed in advance that the main element of the plot will be competition (especially with angry Freya) rather than alliance formation.
The above story I summarized sounds simply wonderful, and I can’t wait to be able to meet the god of law and justice or love or the person behind storms and lightning. God of War Ragnarok will definitely end the adventure that started in God of War (2018), so I’m sure there will be dozens of twists and turns and deaths of the most important heroes. The screenwriters, knowing that they do not have to analyze their movements for hours, which can have a very strong influence on the next part of the saga, will certainly give themselves the reins of imagination and offer us something that we will remember for a long time.
Norse mythology has always interested me and I was very keen to listen to lectures on the subject in my student days. Reading about the wonderful lands, the gods of the North and imagining what it would all look like in the “real world” struck me, and I was happy to compare my vision to the one offered by the Santa Monica studio. The material available so far from the next installment of the series suggests that the Nine Realms Show will impress recipients even more, so whether you like it or not, kissing walls and pausing at the least appropriate moments to enjoy the landscape I don’t miss during my first learning about the Inevitable Clash of Gods.
Even more extraordinary…
I had the pleasure of reading many opinions about the God of War Ragnarok demo – there were also negative opinions about the exploration and the combat system itself. Gamers accuse American developers of copying most of the moves and transferring most of the mechanisms from the previous installment of the brand to the latest. I can’t agree with that view, because I’ve always thought that if something works, plus – in this example – looks so cool, why would you step in and risk creating something that might attract only a handful of interested parties?
The second, equally important point is as follows: you can’t even forget for a moment that Kratos and Atreus’ next trip will not only make it to PlayStation 5, but also PlayStation 4 – I have the impression that some people miss this detail at some points. The 2018 segment was already extracting the last juices from previous generation Sony hardware, so there’s a good chance that creating more thrilling moves and unimaginably divine special effects is simply impossible due to the limitations of the base PS4 model, which only generates 1.84 TFLOPS – about 8.5 TFLOPS less than the PS5 . It is an abyss that we must not forget.
On the other hand, the exploration-focused excerpt makes it clear that God of War Ragnarok will indeed be a bigger game than Sony’s previous game (it’s said 40 hours of gameplay). In addition to the boat that will help you cross the most flooded areas without harming your health, we will use a wolf sled that will allow us to quickly get from point A to B. to be completed? If this item performs as well as the Gears 5, then I definitely support it.
2022, come on!
As I wrote in the first part of this text, I have high hopes for God of War Ragnarok. I kept my fingers crossed for the Japanese gaming giant’s production to see the light of day in 2022, because I know Horizon Forbidden West will have a very difficult task to steal my heart. The adventure of the red-haired warrior has never made a great impression on me and my eyes will mainly focus on Kratos’ next expedition, rather than Slug. I may not be disappointed.
