- The United States has been playing the Ryder Cup with Europe since 1979, after which 28 points were scored. 19 A new record
- The fans were not shy away from the doping, creating a competitive atmosphere that golfers often did not enjoy because they usually play separately
- Among the spectators were many celebrities who wanted to play golf. Michael Jordan revealed that many players have asked him for advice
Launched in 1927, the Ryder Cup is not the only golf event played in a competitive format, but it is considered the most valuable and exciting. Initially, the US and England teams competed, but due to the rare British victories in 1979, the game was moved to the US-Europe, with 28 points scored since then. Golfers from the old continent have won 11 of 21 battles, but have now lost decisively. And the Americans set a record for scoring.
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Whistle Straits Golf Course in Wisconsin was packed with fans who created a competitive atmosphere that golfers often do not enjoy because they usually play individually. Among the audience, there were many celebrities, some of whom (e.g. former footballer Alessandro del Piero, former basketball player Tony Cuco or actors Rob Rickle and Tom Feldon) took part in a popular show competition. Jordan, considered the best basketball player in NBA history, did not take part, although he is willing to take the stick in his hand. He sometimes plays with some of the players on the American national team, for example with Dustin Johnson.
Some of them asked me how team games happen because they come from a game based on uniqueness, but in a game like this it is a bit different. The most important thing is simplicity. Sometimes people are so advanced that they do more than they can handle. I always believe that when I play an important game it should be approached very simply. I’ve been doing this my whole life, so why should I do something I have never done before? Jordan said simplicity was the best advice I could give people, and he was passionate about the success of his fellow countrymen.
On Fridays and Saturdays, players played in pairs in two settings. Every day 8 pairs fight each other – 4 in Formula Formula 4 and 4. In both “Forball”, the number of winning holes is decisive, but before, two players from one team alternate with a ball, and in the latter, each of them and one of the two players on the team is the best Results. It’s easy to guess that a quartet needs two equal golfers, and even if one of them plays better on the ball. 12 individual matches were held on Sunday.
Johnson is only the third player since the aforementioned transformation in 1979 to score 5 points in 5 matches. Johnson had 3 of 4 points with Colin Morikawa, 1 with Tokyo Olympic champion Sander Schaffel and 1 individually. Morikawa and Patrick Cantley each scored 3.5 points. The American victory should not really come as a surprise as 8 of the top 10 golfers in the top 10 in the world rankings are Americans. On the other hand, there were 5 acquaintances on their list.
In the Europa squad, the Spaniards were not the only ones disappointed with John Rahm (No. 1 in the world rankings) and Sergio Garcia, who won three matches in pairs. It was only after their meeting that Europe took a 1-0 lead, but on the first day it got two more draws. The morning session of the second day again saw the victories of Rahm and Garcia and the defeats of the rest. The Europeans performed well in the evening, but at 5:11 it became clear that only one miracle in the private series could give the guests victory. Nothing like this happened. Irish Rory McIlroy (1 point in 4 games), Englishman Paul Casey (4 out of 0) and junior 24-year-old Norway’s Victor Howland (1 out of 5) disappointed.
According to the original calendar, the next Ryder Cup was to take place in Rome next year, but after postponing the 2020 edition for a year, it was agreed that the next one would take place in the odd year, i.e. 2023.
