Hubert Hurkacz has decided he will not take part in the ATP 250 competition, which will start on Sunday on the grass courts of Mallorca Country Club. The Wroclaw player will not travel to Mallorca, but will head to London to quietly prepare for the 2022 Grand Slam Wimbledon, which will take place on June 27 – July 10.
Hubi will have solid preparations for the London event behind him. Play two tournaments on the lawn. In Stuttgart, he won the doubles competition with Croatian Mate Pavic. At Halle, however, he will fight for Friday’s singles semi-final, and his opponent will be Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (more here).
Hurkacz was set to be one of the stars of the tournament in Mallorca and could count on a fortune in the first round. Despite his resignation, interesting names should not be absent from the Spanish event. It is said, inter alia, that the leader of the ATP rankings, Russian Danio Medvedev, will not be able to play at Wimbledon. Wild cards went to Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and Australian Nick Kyrgios.
The first ATP tournament was held on the lawn courts of Mallorca last season. At that time, Medvedev became the hero. It is worth noting that the director of the competition is the uncle and former coach of Rafael Nadal, Toni Nadal.
