The Israeli Ministry of Defense has agreed to purchase 12 Lockheed Martin CH-53K helicopters and two Boeing KC-46 air tankers from the United States. The total value of the equipment is estimated at $ 3.1 billion, the Israeli Defense Ministry said on Friday.
The contract was signed on Thursday. The Israeli Ministry of Defense said in a statement that it was purchasing new equipment aimed at modernizing the air force. There is also the possibility of purchasing six helicopters in addition to the contract.
The first helicopters are scheduled to be delivered to Israel in 2026.
In an interview with Israeli military radio, Brigadier General Shimon Senpher said aircraft tankers would not be delivered before 2025. As he revealed, the Israelis were trying to buy four planes for fuel delivery and expedite their delivery.
Israeli media speculate that aircraft tankers may be instrumental in testing Iranian nuclear facilities.
Zenifer said the current refueling capacity of the Israeli Air Force is sufficient for its missions. (BAP)
