Luis Suarez is on the verge of becoming a Uruguayan Nacional player. According to the media, the experienced striker decided to return to his homeland after a break of several years.
The 35-year-old went to Europe in 2006. Groningen was his first club on the Old Continent. He later represented the colors of Ajax Amsterdam, Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
He played in the last team until the end of the 2021/2022 season. He had hoped to stay in the Spanish capital for another year, but “Rojiblancos” did not offer him a new contract.
As a result, Suarez is left without a club and this has not changed so far. Now, however, he has signed a contract with the team where he started his football career.
Uruguayan journalist Rodri Vazquez reports that Suarez has decided to return to his native Nacional. He has already agreed to the terms of his contract.
For now, he will sign an exceptionally short contract of only several months. It will only be valid until December 2022. The striker is scheduled to start training with the squad next week.
The key to the success of the entire operation was the actions of the club’s president, Jose Fuentes. First, he met Suarez while the player was visiting his country, and then he went to the player’s home in Madrid with a specific proposal.
