Most Common Drugs - Types, Symptoms and Effects of Substance Abuse - Zdrowie Wprost

Medicines are divided into two groups, i.e. strong drugs and mild drugs. Some psychoactive substances are found in plants that also have therapeutic effects. An example is marijuana (cannabis), which is used to relieve symptoms of certain medical conditions. It can be used legally in many countries. In the case when psychotropic substances are naturally present in plants, then we are dealing with natural medicines. Natural medicines also include hallucinogenic mushrooms and coca leaves.

Medicines that are produced in a laboratory using chemicals are synthetic drugs. Hard drugs are illegal in Poland and other countries, including countries where the use of cannabis is legal.

Drugs are a very dangerous substance

The subject of drugs is a very important topic, because intoxicants destroy the human body causing mental and physical addiction.

How quickly this occurs depends, inter alia, on genetic disposition and other factors. Strong drugs and soft drugs are substances that can lead to very serious health problems. Intoxication associated with the use of hard and soft drugs may lead to risky behavior, such as casual sex. Most often, drugs that enter the body intravenously are an indirect cause of HIV and viral hepatitis. Drugs do not cause these diseases, but people who abuse them, especially drug addicts, do not follow the rules of hygiene, using the same needle that may contain harmful microorganisms.

Important! There are no safe medicines! Even marijuana is considered relatively harmless and can have side effects. Moreover, soft drugs are often just the beginning of their “adventure” with psychotropic substances, encouraging them to reach for stronger drugs than ever before.

Threats to health and life are not only limited to psychoactive substances, but also other chemicals that are added to medicines, which are intended to increase the effect of, for example, substances that are naturally formed in plants. It is also found in marijuana bought on the black market, which leads to complications that smoking cannabis, which is a medical device, does not cause. You should know that for soft and hard drugs available on the black market, substances are added that increase the risk of addiction, as well as the occurrence of serious health complications that lead to the destruction of the body.

Types of drugs – strong drugs and narcotics

Statistics for different psychotropic substances vary greatly from country to country. In Poland, reported drug use is reported by just over 5% of the adult population aged 18-64 years. However, it must be remembered that statistics do not always correspond to reality.

There is no doubt that in the immediate vicinity of most of us we will meet at least one person with a drug addiction or a person using psychotropic substances for relaxation or treatment purposes. Strong drugs and soft drugs affect the human body a little differently.

The division into soft drugs and hard drugs is a traditional division, which groups psychoactive substances into “less” and “more” addictions, but whether or not addiction will occur depends not only on the type of drug.

Soft drugs include marijuana, cannabis, ecstasy, and LSD. This group includes substances that do not cause physical dependence. The group of strong drugs includes drugs that are addictive both physically and mentally. The group of hard drugs includes heroin, cocaine and amphetamines. Other drugs and legal highs, as well as narcotic drugs, such as prescription drugs and opioids that contain opioids.

Individual drugs affect the body in a slightly different way, resulting in, among other things, psychomotor agitation, a sudden rush of energy, a feeling of intoxication, as well as an effect on the center Nervous system. Some medicines relieve pain and help you relax. This group includes marijuana used for medicinal purposes.

What drugs are used most often?

The problem of drug addiction is systematically increasing, which is associated, among other things, with the experience of the so-called afterburner that has been on the market for many years. Young people come to them in order to try different materials. The increasing number of addicts is also affected by the fast pace of life, forcing them to exceed the limits of physical and mental endurance. In many professional groups, the use of drugs to stimulate the body and gain additional energy is the daily regimen.

Narcotics The most common are the following:

  • Supplying cannabis to our bodies Marijuana,
  • Stimulating, energizing and powerfully reducing hunger and the need for sleep Amphetamines
  • It shows a very strong analgesic effect and addictive opioids,
  • A tablet that stimulates and strengthens the senses and facilitates making new friends Ecstasy (MDMA),
  • Increased risk of irrational behavior Cocaine
  • Reduce fatigue and revitalize mephedrone;

Use of strong drugs and narcotics increases the risk of developing physical and psychological dependence on one or more psychoactive substances.

Stopping the use of narcotic drugs leads to drug withdrawal syndrome. drug withdrawal syndrome It is dangerous not only for the addict who suffers from drug cravings, but also for his environment. Strong physical dependence interferes with the ability to think rationally, so a drug addict, in order to obtain drugs or money to buy them, is able to do whatever it takes to take the next dose of the drug. Drug addiction is one of the factors that lead to burglary, robbery and murder.

Reaching for softer drugs is often the beginning of addiction, because the effects of cannabis encourage people to try strong, highly addictive drugs.

Types and effects of drug addiction

Mental dependence and physical dependence vary greatly. Mental addiction, also known as psychological addiction, is associated with the need to deliver a certain substance to the body, but does not have serious physiological consequences. Mental addiction causes increased tolerance to the effect of a particular substance, which is why it often leads to the use of stronger potent drugs.

In the case of physical addiction, we are dealing with the effect of a particular intoxicant on the body to which it is accustomed. After stopping the medication, strong symptoms of withdrawal syndrome develop, including:

  • muscle tremor
  • headache,
  • sleep disturbance
  • Stomach ache,
  • heart problems,
  • excessive sweating
  • high blood pressure,
  • Agressive behaviour
  • Visual and auditory hallucinations.

People with withdrawal symptoms may need treatment in a detoxification unit.

It is possible to stop using drugs, but remain addicted for the rest of your life. This applies to any type of addiction. Stopping drug use, even for a long time, does not mean treatment, because every addict may return to addiction under the influence of different motives.

Both physical dependence and psychological dependence cause severe damage to the body, leading to cardiovascular disorders, liver failure, kidney damage, brain damage and other complications that increase the risk of additional diseases. The necessity of access to intoxicants disrupts thought processes, causing addicts to see the surrounding reality completely differently.

The road to overcoming addiction is long and arduous, but it is possible to stop taking intoxicants. Most addictive heroin; In the case of heroin abusers, achieving successful treatment and recovery is the most difficult, but the degree of addiction to all drugs is affected not only by the psychotropic substances they contain, but also, among other things, the genetic predisposition to addiction.

Symptoms of drug use

People around addicts may not notice typical symptoms of addiction for a long time. The use of medications is indicated, among other things, by abnormally wide pupils, unresponsive pupils, excessive agitation or sedation, strange behavior, increased energy flow, and no need to sleep or eat. It is disturbing that young and younger people get hooked on drugs, looking for a way in psychoactive substances, such as being overweight or overworking at school, university and work.
