An investigation by more than 100,000 people in the United States has revealed that It has nothing to do with blood type or vulnerability or should not contract Covit-19. Previous research has found that people with blood type A are more susceptible to the virus.
The study, published in Journal of the American Medical Association, Used the database of 24 hospitals and 215 clinics in three US states (Utah, Nevada and Idaho) affiliated with the nonprofit health organization Intermount Healthcare.
The investigation was led by researchers from the Heart Institute at Stanford University, the Utah School of Medicine and the Intermount Medical Center.
There are four main types of blood: A, B, AB and O. To examine the impact and severity of Covit-19 in the blood, the researchers analyzed samples from 107,796 different individuals who underwent PCR testing in hospitals and clinics owned by Intermount. In the case of multiple trials, the experts considered only the first test with a positive or negative result from the participants.
To analyze the relationship between the APO blood type and the incidence of the disease, blood samples from the tests that tested positive and negative for the presence of Govit were compared. On the positive side, samples of hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients were analyzed and patients who were or were not in the ICU were analyzed.
July 2020, New England Journal of Medicine A study has revealed that people with one type of blood are more likely to have a severe form of the disease and those with type O are less likely to have it. A Chinese study, Released in May of the same year, it already suggested this relationship.
The database used in previous studies differs from current research. Scientists in countries such as Italy, Spain, Denmark, and Germany compared about 2,000 patients with thousands of healthy people with severe Covit-19 conditions with mild or no symptoms.
According to the researchers, previous studies may have come to different conclusions due to “small sample sizes and backwardness and observability”.
The group also argues that “the APO gene is highly polymorphic and that the ABO blood groups are distributed differently between ancestors and geography, which explains the higher incidence of blood type in a particular region.
Blood type does not affect the chances of contamination
According to the study, the researchers did not identify any relationship between blood type and the chances of contracting Govit-19, as well as eliminating the chances of this factor exacerbating the disease.
The authors of the study say that “blood type is not related to the severity or severity of the disease, in which the virus is positive, hospitalization or admission to the ICU”.

Compared with blood type O, the results showed that the type A virus was not associated with increased positive, hospital admission or ICU admission. “Similarly, B and AB types were not associated with worse results than type O.”
Men are more likely to suffer from goiter
Although no relationship was found between the APO blood group and the Govt, other demographic characteristics were evident after analysis.
Most of the persons tested were women. Overall, they represent 76.9% of the database. However, in Govt patients, men were more likely to be hospitalized (50.1%) and ICU admission cases (61.8%).
The median age among hospitalized patients was 57 years and 60 years in ICUs.
