The operator announces that the process of disabling the 4G network is planned for the years 2024-25. Stations will be gradually canceled in other regions of Poland, but the exact schedule has not been revealed.
Orange recommends arming yourself with a 4G phone by then, allowing you to make voice calls via VoLTE. The operator confirms that all phones available in its offer as of July 2021 have this functionality.
To use 4G, you also need a SIM card that supports this generation. If someone has been using an old 3G card for years (it is better to check the tag on the card), they can replace it for free at the salon.
If someone in 2025 was still using a phone without 4G, they would still be able to make voice calls over the 2G network. However, Orange warns that this may be related to difficulties in making connections (2G network is subject to overload) or lack of access to the mobile Internet.
What about people who live in places where Orange has only 3G access? It is worth noting that the network is basically shutting down to free up frequencies, so expect 3G stations to be replaced by 4G.

In the press release, Orange confirmed that it is planned to turn off 3G in the first place, and there will be time for “2G”. Earlier, in the context of the shutdown of the second generation, it was talked about around 2030.
