Poznań / Director of the Early Shark Museum in Lednica, prof.  Dr. Hub.  Andrew Marek Werwa

Director of the Museum of the Early Piasts in Lednica, historian prof. Dr. Hub. Andrej Marek Wiroa, reported the Department of Medieval History at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań on Thursday. The professor was 67 years old.

“It is with great regret that we inform you that Prof. Dr. Hebb. Andrzej Marek Wyrwa, historian and archaeologist, scholar of the history of Cistercian monasticism, for years led the expedition to explore the secrets of the monastery in Sikno, director of the First Shark Museum in Leednica, charismatic lecturer and our dear colleague from Factory, on Thursday informed of the Department of Medieval History, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

Professor Wiroa was 67 years old. He is the author of numerous scholarly, popular, and journalistic publications, including Editor of Scientific Publications.

The professor’s research interests included interdisciplinary research on settlement and cultural and natural changes in early medieval Poland and Europe, including specialized research in the field of physical, chemical and natural sciences in relation to the historical sciences.

He also dealt with the history of material culture and everyday life in medieval and modern Poland, including monastic circles. He researched the network of monastic, canonical and mendicant monasteries in Poland and Europe, and was particularly interested in the history and culture of the Cistercian Order in Central Europe and Poland.

In his scholarly work he also dealt with, among other things, research into the beliefs of Polish society from the Middle Ages to modern times, as well as research on Romanesque, Gothic and Early Gothic-brick and wood sacred architecture in Poland.

He has also conducted research on itineraries of pilgrims from Polish lands in Europe and cultural routes in Poland and Europe, as well as interdisciplinary research on the settlement complex in Łekno, the history of the Cistercian monastery in Łekno-Wągrowiec, the city of Łekno and the church in Tarnów Pałucki, and interdisciplinary research on the post-Abbey Cistercian in Ląd on the Warta River.

In recent years, A. Wyrwa was the director of the first Piasts Museum in Lednica.
