Sophie Ellis Bextor admitted to being a rape victim

British singer and model Sophie Ellis Bextor – author of “Murder On The Dancefloor” among others – has admitted that she was raped when she was 17. She described her memories in a book just published.

Sophie Ellis Bextor, a British singer – and former model – has just published the latest book containing her memoir. The song “Spinning Plates” caught the attention of the British media with an excerpt in which Elise Bextor admits that she lost her virginity at the age of 17 when she fell victim to a 29-year-old guitarist who raped her.

“I heard myself say ‘no’ and ‘I don’t want it,’ but it didn’t change anything,” the singer, reported by BBC News, among others, wrote. She continued, “He had sex with me and I felt ashamed. I lost my virginity and felt stupid.”

She added, “I was ashamed, but also unsure of my feelings, because I had no experience to compare it to them.” In a book published in parts on Mail On Sunday, Ellis-Bixtor describes how she met the musician she named Jim. It was during one of the concerts, when she was still preparing for her final exams. He invited her to his apartment to show her his history books and “before she knew it, they were laying on his bed and my underwear was off.”

Sophie Ellis Bextor: I haven’t heard

The singer explained that she chose to share her own experiences to help people understand “where the boundaries lie between good and evil.” “My experience was not related to violence” – I assessed. “It all happened because I didn’t hear. There were two people, one said ‘yes’ and the other ‘no’ and the person who said ‘yes’ did what she wanted despite the objections of the other,” she continued.

Ellis-Bextor writes that she does not know if the event coincided with what was seen in the 1990s as rape, which was then linked to aggression.

42-year-old Ellis-Bextor gained worldwide fame in 2003 with his single “Murder On The Dancefloor”. She has been nominated for a BRIT Award several times.

As BBC News reminds us, during the social isolation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the singer won the sympathy of fans by organizing discos in her kitchen for 10 weeks. The accounts have attracted thousands of fans to her Instagram account. Kitchen parties were accompanied by her husband and five children.
