I rarely get angry with games, but this time it’s hard to stop getting angry. Starship Troopers: Terran Command is an example of a production that could have been really good, However, the excessive repetition and simplicity of many of the elements makes them ordinary ordinary.
Her biggest problem is that she gets bored very quickly. Indeed, in each mission we have to move from one point to another, eliminating spider hordes along the way, destroying their nests, capturing buildings and defending the base. From time to time we have to escort a more important man to the point of evacuation or make sure that a certain unit does not die. This is the end of the attractions.
These few patents are repeated in all nineteen story missions. The creators have tried to make sure there’s an element of unpretentiousness with each subsequent mission, usually a new unit or enemy type, but there’s no news intriguing enough to expect glowing faces.
This title is not a typical RTS where we gather raw materials, expand the base and hire branches. Yes, all of these solutions exist to some extent, but the creators treated them marginally. The essence of the game is to traverse maps with several soldiers and exterminate giant insects. The key to victory is proper use of terrain and locating units to fire as effectively as possible.
Starship Troopers: Terran Command He tries to challenge players with some successful design wizards. The field of view of the units is very limited, so it is not difficult to ambush the enemy – especially in places where the passages are narrow. Integration also requires the implementation of a clear line-of-sight system. Soldiers would not be able to attack if obstructions of the terrain or their relatives obstructed their view.
It’s a shame to only pay attention to this when playing at higher difficulty levels. Even in the normal state, most stages can be completed using the forward technique and automatic attack when the enemy is in sight. The choice of difficulty level affects only the firepower of the player’s units. There are no other mods here that will diversify the gameplay other than having to shoot more shots necessary to eliminate the enemy.
The creators certainly know the source material, which can be seen, for example, in well-designed models of opponents. Series movie lovers Spaceship Soldiers They will certainly recognize individual insects, which sometimes look like they were taken from a silver screen. The ambiance of this production also has a lot to do with its cinematic counterpart – It’s a bit comical, sometimes the game is for humor, sometimes it’s down to darker tones, which may be likable. In terms of graphics, it offers a good level, although some of the effects of the explosions differ in quality from the rest of the setting and hurt the eyes. The soundtrack is even better – the songs are really fun and match the atmosphere. The game runs smoothly and correctly, but you can reserve the Polish language version, because sometimes English texts are displayed.
It is difficult not to get the impression that many elements scream in order to take them more seriously and develop successful ideas. Module progression is limited to choosing between two skills. Once the optimal fighting tactic is established, it can be used to complete most missions, and optional mission rewards sometimes discourage you from making up your way. And the deaths of units turned out to be moderately wasted, because resources are returned to our pool anyway and new soldiers can be obtained in no time.
But what’s even more painful is that we still feel like doing the same thing, only on a different map and with a different plot rationale. The story of a brave army fighting with peanuts on the planet Koalacha does not captivate and is just a simple explanation of why we are forced to eradicate another insect’s nest. However, the game may be fun, but because of the repetition of the game, it is worth breaking it up into several short sessions.
My opinion of Starship Troopers: Terran Command
- The atmosphere of the films is captured well;
- beautiful voice
- Some interesting design ideas…
- … which were made on capes;
- very repetitive game;
- Polish language version problems.
