On September 21, the Russian President announced the so-called partial mobilization. According to the decree of Vladimir Putin, even athletes can be sent to the front in Ukraine.
The Ministry of Sports decided to suspend all foreign trips to competitions and training camps for local athletes until further notice. This means that representatives of the state will not be able to leave Russia in the near future and it cannot be excluded that they will be called up to the army.
The Russian website rsport.ria.ru reports that there are already the first players to be called up to the army. One of them is volleyball player Nikita Alekseev.
“The volleyball player of Surgut Superliga Gazprom-Yugra Nikita Alekseev received a summons to the recruitment committee after the start of partial mobilization” – these were the words of the player’s agent, Dmitry Rizuano, from “Ria Novosti”.

Alekseev previously served in the Airborne Forces. The 30-year-old volleyball player became the champion of Russia and winner of the European Champions League in 2018, as well as a two-time winner of the Country Cup and the Super Cup (2017, 2018). He also won the European Youth Championship (2010).
