He explained that quasi-astronauts could be, among other things, people who have had limbs amputated or whose height is less than 1.3 meters. The European Space Agency states that it is unable to guarantee participation in space flights for selected candidates with disabilities, but that it will work with them to adapt the conditions of the space missions to their needs. The agency received 257 applications from people with disabilities.

In the closed recruitment process on June 18, the European Space Agency received applications from more than 17 thousand. And about 5.5 thousand men. Women – announced on Wednesday. Requests were received from all 22 ESA member states and three ESA collaborating countries. The largest number of applications came from France (7137), Germany (3700) and Great Britain (1979). 549 people came from Poland.

According to the ESA, 1,500 candidates will move on to the next stage and will have to pass psychological exams. The final decision on who will fly into space will be made in October 2022.

During the previous selection there were 8,413 candidates. In the end, six people were chosen: two from Italy, Germany, a British, a French, and a Dane.
