The Marine Science Center will use waste heat

Poland’s first 5G heating network will be built in Szczecin. Marine Science Center Jerzy Stelmach will be heated by waste heat. The process of connecting the MCN to the heating network is in progress. On September 19, Szczecińska Energetyka Cieplna began preparations for the technological start-up at the Ciepło Balancing Station at ul. Władysław IV. Works will be carried out simultaneously in both buildings. It will run until Tuesday, September 20th.

– This is one of the stages of creating a smart low-temperature heating network to be built in asztownia – reports Jaroslav Dobrzynsky, MCN press spokesman. – The first heat recipient will be the Marine Science Center. The heat supply contract was signed by SEC and MCN in July last year. Intelligent heating system based on ectogrid – 5th generation heating network will be built in Łasztownia.

In the production and service processes, there are large amounts of waste heat that can be managed. The use of this heat and energy from renewable sources reduces the emission of harmful substances and heat into the atmosphere. In Poland it is the first such solution, but in Europe there are already energy self-sufficient regions based on ectogrid technology. The first infrastructure in the country to provide heat and cold at the same time will be built in Łasztownia. The technology uses the mechanism of operating cooling devices and heat pumps, as well as electricity and heating networks, but combines them in an innovative way and uses them efficiently in the municipal network.

Ectogrid is a closed, low-temperature network that allows heat exchange between buildings. In addition to complete control and, accordingly, economical supply of heat and cooling energy to the grid, the heat balancing plant has the ability to store heat and cold energy, providing additional energy savings. The lower operating temperatures of the ectogrid allow efficient use of renewable energy sources and waste heat found locally in Łasztownia.

The location of the station is related to the proximity of the existing high-parameter network, compliance with the local plan for the determination of the location of this type of facility and the proximity of buildings that can connect to the network. System expansion will continue to build new facilities in asztownia and connect them to the ectogrid network. The station is scheduled to enter service in October.
