The Polish national football team has arrived in Qatar, where the World Cup will start on Sunday. A government plane carrying football players to the borders of Poland was escorted by fighter jets from the base in Krzecinye.
The Polish team left after 14 from the military part of the Okęcie Airport in Warsaw. Therefore, neither the fans nor the journalists could say goodbye to the players.
The white and red planes landed at Doha airport just before noon. 20 – Polish time. They were greeted with a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius.
Therefore, the flight to Qatar took more than five hours and took place under special circumstances. In Poland, the government plane with the players was escorted by F-16 fighters from the base in Krzesiny near Poznań.
“Our players are on their way to the World Cup in Qatar. Polish F-16s are escorting them to the border. Good luck!” – wrote Mariusz Pusachczak, head of the Ministry of National Defense, on Twitter.
The general secretary of the Polish Football Association, Łukasz Wachowski, released a video from the plane, showing fighter jets. In the recording, you can see how one of the pilots even tried to encourage the players to fight.
On Friday, the first training will take place, preceded by a press conference.
A FIFA organizational meeting of the entire national team – staff and players – is also scheduled for that day. It’s a tradition before the big tournaments start. Various organizational, arbitration and logistical issues will be discussed, costumes will be checked, and a photo session will be held.
The World Cup kicks off on Sunday 20 November and will run until 18 December. The Poles play their first match on Tuesday 22 November against Mexico. Then, on November 26, we will face Saudi Arabia, and on November 30, we will face Argentina.
