The mission of the NEA is, among other things, to assist Member States in maintaining and further developing the necessary scientific, technological and legal foundations for the safe, environmentally sound and economic use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) areas of competence include safety of nuclear facilities, regulation of nuclear activities, radioactive waste management, radiological protection, nuclear science, nuclear fuel cycle economic and technical analyzes, nuclear law and civil liability, and public information.
