The New York State Legislature on Monday announced the results of an investigation by former state Governor Andrew Cuomo into containing “overwhelming evidence” of sexual harassment against women. He also makes various allegations.
A report from the House of Representatives of the New York State House of Representatives accuses Cuomo of using his aides to help produce his book on the Govt-19 during working hours, according to U.S. public radio NPR.
The study also says that the board of governors “significantly corrected” statistics on the number of deaths from the virus, excluding the deaths of nursing home inmates in hospitals. It should shed light on the role of cuomo in the fight against epidemics.
In March, the Judicial Commission of the State Legislature appointed the Manhattan law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell to investigate whether there were grounds for Cuomo’s dismissal.
The NPR recalls that “Democrats resigned in August to avoid a possible criminal investigation following another investigation that found that at least 11 women had been sexually abused. The investigation was conducted by two independent lawyers selected by Democratic Attorney General Letidia James.”
James then announced that he would run for governor next year.
Cumo did not testify in Davis Polk & Wardwell. He provided written reports to the law firm. He denied that his intention was to touch anyone inappropriately. He also said he did not want to put anyone in a bad position by sexual comments.
The NPR recalls that Cuomo vehemently denied some of the allegations, including the alleged obscene behavior that took place at the executive mansion, the governor’s official residence. He demanded that the investigating authorities hand over all the evidence against him. Members of the Judicial Commission denied that he had the right to view these documents.
“The former governor, facing impeachment proceedings, chose to resign without questioning the evidence available and without attempting to confront the witnesses. (…) he has no right to abandon this option and submit any further evidence,” the statement said.
As the National Radio Station adds, Cuomo made frequent statements of his determination to cooperate with investigators. According to state legislative investigators, he submitted only a handful of documents within nearly six months.
