US demands more user data from Twitter

As the company wrote in its annual Corporate Policy Transparency Report, the US is the world leader when it comes to Twitter data requests. About 20 percent of requests for information come from U.S. government agencies. India is globally ahead of Japan and France in this ranking.

The US has been the world leader in Twitter data requests since 2012. The only exception was the US, which moved into second place in the second half of 2020.

More broadly, the US requests more data from big tech companies (Apple, Facebook and Twitter) than any other country. At the same time, global forces are pressuring tech companies to meet specific content requirements and share user data. Human rights defenders are concerned because it puts too much power in the hands of governments and threatens privacy as a result.
