The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (“AJC”) reported that “a small plane crashed near the runway just seconds after takeoff.”
Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the victims of the crash.
“At least 15 firefighters stationed at the county-owned airport (DeKalb) ran down the runway and quickly put out the blaze,” Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jason Daniels was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
According to the FAA, the four people found were passengers in only six seats. The cause of the disaster has not yet been determined. The investigation will be conducted by the National Transport Safety Board (NTSB).
“The airport covers an area of 280 hectares and is located approximately 16 km from the city of Atlanta. With an average of 209,000 take-offs and landings per year over the past three decades, it is the second busiest Georgia airport after Hartsfield Airport.”
